The Same Old Stuff

I haven't updated this journal with any real life stuff for an eternity, so I figured now was as good of a time as any to do so.

I've been on summer break for almost a month and it's not going any way that I thought it would so far. I ended up signing up for three summer classes, one that's eight weeks long and two that are four weeks long (one starts up right after the other one finishes). The former is a Computer Science class that I'm required to take before I can apply for pro school, which will allow me to take the higher level classes in the major after I'm accepted into it, and the other two are bacc. core classes that the major requires: Public Speaking and Technical Writing. I really like the accelerated curriculum for the Public Speaking class. The topics we cover are incredibly easy and I only have to give four speeches total. I just finished the third week of class and have only one more speech and a test left to do. It rushed by really fast. If I was taking the regular class, which is ten weeks long, I would probably have to give a lot more speeches and be incredibly bored the rest of the time. As for the CS class, it's interesting. We're programming things in C now and I seem to be adapting to the change rather quickly. We get to work in pairs on programming assignments, so I have less work to do, which is always a nice thing. I'm kind of dreading taking the technical writing class, as it could end up being incredibly annoying, but we'll see how it goes. I might sign up for some more four week classes, too. It's nice to get stuff out of the way quickly and sooner rather than later.

I'm officially double majoring in CS and New Media Communications. I was initially going to drop CS as soon as summer started, but my dad talked me out of it when I went home for a few days. I like programming most of the time and I won't spend that much extra time in school to get two degrees instead of one. It's just another year if I work really hard at things. By this, I mean that I have to take around 18 credits every term for the next two years, as well as any summer classes that I can. Oh well. I'm guaranteed a job in the future this way. With just NMC, things would be kind of iffy. Ultimately though, I want to be a video game designer and writer in the future, maybe a website designer as well, not a strict programmer. I'm also minoring in Japanese, although it's not official yet. I /still/ need to go in and talk to a counselor.

Outside of school, I've been trying to get a new apartment. My lease for this one expires in a little over a month (the day after I finish my classes). Neither Billy nor my brother wants to live with Daniel and I again, so it'll just be the two of us next year. Things are a little more expensive that way, believe it or not. It's cheaper to get a three bedroom house and split the rent four ways than it is to get a one bedroom apartment and split the rent two ways. It's kind of frustrating, but at least this way I won't have to deal with anyone other than Daniel. I got kind of tired of our other roommates being messy and abusing our niceness at times. >>;

In the online world, I've been trying to avoid Subeta and Misticpets simply due to the fact that I've already completed almost everything I wanted to on both websites and now do nothing other than waste time on them. They're really easy games and I have a HUGE surplus of money on both that I currently have nothing to do with. Neopets is starting to suck me back in though. I really want to get a few of my dream pets on there, but I'm not sure what exactly I'd do with them afterwards. I want to roleplay, but I have a tendency to relate all of my characters to my novel. I don't want any of them or their stories to be tied to any sort of game or another person. They're my mind-babies and no one other than me should have any sort of hold on them. So...is there any point in even playing on petsites any more? I'm not really sure what to do. It's a dilemma I've been having lately.

I suppose that's enough rambling for now. I plan on making another journal tomorrow which will list the goals I want to accomplish this week (even though there's only a few days left in it). I really want to start being productive again. Meh.
